Can I revive him?

Yes. You can revive a stock Jibo with Phoenix, the independent, free service at jibo.io. The main way is to use the free Jibo DFU Mod Toolkit to flash the Phoenix image, restart Jibo yourself, then finish with QR setup in the console.

This is a software setup path, not a repair for damaged hardware. Read the full setup guide before starting.

What you need

  • Jibo, his power supply and a USB cable.
  • A Windows PC, Linux PC or Mac. Windows, Linux and Intel Macs have been tested; Apple silicon Macs are experimental. Check the download requirements for your computer.
  • Your Wi-Fi details and a free Phoenix account.
  • The one-file toolkit download for your computer.

The main way: flash the Phoenix image

  1. Open the toolkit and follow the guide to put Jibo in RCM mode and enter DFU.
  2. Choose Install a Phoenix image or an official update, then the Phoenix image marked recommended. Keep Keep this Jibo's calibration (recommended) selected. Follow the full image steps, review and confirm.
  3. When the toolkit says it is done, restart Jibo yourself. Fully shut him down, then turn him back on with his power button, without holding RCM. Do not wait for him to restart on his own.
  4. Finish with QR setup in the Phoenix console. Leave him plugged in if he has an update to install.

Flashing erases photos stored on Jibo and starts his Wi-Fi, pairing and settings fresh. The toolkit keeps his camera calibration and name with the recommended choice and backs up his current settings before writing.

The other way: use the setup command

If you'd rather not reflash Jibo, use the toolkit to set int-developer mode and Wi-Fi, then run the setup command from Robots → Add a Jibo in your console. The command asks for his IP address and checks which setup path he needs. Follow the setup-command steps; take the private command from your own console.

A sealed or never-set-up Jibo

Yes, Phoenix supports him too, including a Jibo that was factory reset. The Phoenix image followed by QR setup is the simplest route. You do not need the original phone app.

After the image, his setup screen says Go to jibo.io to get started. A screen that says Go to the Jibo app on your phone to get started means he still needs to be connected to Phoenix. The guide explains both screen cues.
