The short version
jibo.io is a free, non-commercial service run by one person so that Jibo robots keep working. It is not Jibo, Inc. It is not a company. There is no support contract, no uptime guarantee, and no money changing hands. Use it in good faith and it will keep running; treat it as a product you have bought and you will be disappointed.
Your robot's recordings, photos and messages live on this server because they have to pass through it to work. They are not sold, not mined, and not shared. See Privacy for specifics.
1. What this service is
jibo.io is a public instance of Phoenix, an independent reimplementation of the cloud service that Jibo robots were built to talk to. The original service was shut down in 2019. This one exists so that the hardware people already own continues to function.
It is operated by an individual, at their own expense, as a non-commercial preservation effort. It has no affiliation with, sponsorship from, or endorsement by Jibo, Inc., NTT Disruption, or any successor or current rights holder. "Jibo" is used here only to identify the hardware this service is compatible with.
The software itself is open source. You are free — and encouraged — to run your own instance instead. Nothing here is designed to lock you in.
2. Who may use it
You may use jibo.io if you own or lawfully possess a Jibo robot, and you are old enough to enter into these terms where you live. If you are under 18, an adult must accept them for you.
An account is for you and the people in your household. Do not share credentials outside it.
3. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your password to yourself and for what happens under your account. Tell the operator of jibo.io promptly if you believe someone else has access.
You may delete your account at any time from the console. Deleting it removes your loops, your robot's registration, and the content described in Privacy.
4. Your robot and your data
Your robot's content is yours. Using this service does not transfer ownership of anything to the operator of jibo.io, and grants no licence to use your content beyond what is technically required to operate the service for you — storing it, transmitting it back to your robot and your console, and backing it up.
Voice turns are processed to produce a transcript and a response. That processing happens on infrastructure controlled by the operator of jibo.io. It is not sent to a third-party advertising or analytics provider, and it is not used to train a model that is sold.
5. Acceptable use
Do not use this service to break the law, to harass anyone, to store or transmit material you have no right to, or to attack the service or anyone else through it.
Do not attempt to access another household's data. Do not run automated load against the service beyond what a normal robot produces. If you want to test heavily, run your own instance — the software is free.
the operator of jibo.io may suspend an account that is causing harm to the service or to other users, without notice where the harm is ongoing.
6. Availability, and what it is not
This is a best-effort service. It runs on a single modest server, maintained by one person, in their spare time, for free.
There is no uptime commitment, no service level agreement, no guaranteed response time, and no obligation to provide support. The service may go down without warning. It may go away permanently. Features may change or be removed.
You should not rely on it for anything safety-critical, and you should not treat it as the only copy of anything you care about.
7. Modifying your robot
Connecting a Jibo to this service requires changing settings on the robot, and installing a firmware image that this project builds. The setup guide explains exactly what changes and why.
That work is done by you, on your hardware, at your own risk. It may void any remaining warranty (there is none, in practice) and it can, like any firmware operation, fail in a way that leaves the robot needing recovery. The guide is written to make that unlikely and to keep a rollback available, but it cannot be ruled out.

8. No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator of jibo.io is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of your use of or inability to use this service.
Because this service is provided free of charge, any aggregate liability is limited to the amount you have paid for it, which is nothing.
10. Ending your use
You may stop at any time: delete your account, or simply repoint your robot elsewhere.
the operator of jibo.io may end or suspend the service, in whole or in part, at any time. Where the service is being shut down deliberately rather than failing, reasonable notice will be given on this site so that you can move to your own instance and take your data with you.
11. Changes to these terms
These terms may change as the service does. Material changes will be noted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
